Plenty to enjoy on land and sea at the St Kilda Challenge
**UPDATED TIMETABLE**
The 2022 St Kilda Challenge will be taking place over the weekend, 9th-11th June. Hosted by Comann na Mara in partnership with the race organising authority Clyde Cruising Club, the event offers plenty to see and do, both on shore and off.
The three fleet event includes two races; one leaving from Rathlin Island, the other from Lochmaddy, and both heading out to the open waters of the North Atlantic for St. Kilda before heading back to Lochmaddy village bay. A third more leisurely Flotilla fleet will make a similar passage but without the competition for speed.
Comann na Mara (CnM) is organising a number of shore- based activities for the entertainment of those not at sea.
THURSDAY 9TH JUNE 5pm – 6.30pm: Welcome address to visiting yachts- people and other guests, at
Arainneachd Alainn, North Uist Community Hub at the former Primary School, Lochmaddy. Presentation and exhibition on The Herring Girls of North Uist.
FRIDAY 10TH JUNE – The Herring Girls exhibition continues at Arainneachd Alainn.
A short Herring Girls Walk around Lochmaddy, starting point Taigh Chearsabhagh.
6pm: Raft Race from the slipway at Taigh Chearsabhagh. PLEASE NOTE THE RAFT RACE IS NJOW CANCELLED.
7.30 – 9.30 pm: ‘Taigh Ciuil’ Music Evening organised by Taigh Chearsabhagh, with Padruig Morrison, Chloe Steele, Sheena Peteranna and guests. Booking recommended. Lochmaddy Hall. Cash bar.
SATURDAY 11TH JUNE 11am – 2pm: Table-top Sale at Lochmaddy Hall. Stalls include ceramics, jewellery, sweets, hand-made items, home baking, bric-a-brac, RNLI goods and Sea Safety
Stand, SWI, Bottle Stall, Raffle and much more. Face- painting for the children. Snacks for purchase in Hall car park.
Weather permitting, the local Leverburgh/Harris Lifeboat will be paying a visit, providing a great opportunity to see the boat up close and chat to the crew.
Lochmaddy Fire station will be open between 12noon and 2pm for free home fire safety advice.
Dochas Dancers – young highland dancers will be at Lochmaddy Hall.
7pm: Yacht Race prize- giving in the Hall.
8.00pm: Ceilidh in Lochmaddy Hall with popular local musicians. Cash bar.
