New Community Reporter role now open for applications!
Am Pàipear has been part of Uist life since 1976; informing, entertaining and giving voice to our community.
To continue its multi-award-winning service, Am Pàipear is now looking for a new Community Reporter.
The Community Reporter will research, write and promote news stories and features for print and digital editions of the paper, as well as produce film and audio content for the Am Pàipear digital service.
The role is based in the UCVO buildings in Balivanich, but much of the time is likely to be spent out in the community, speaking with the people and attending events.
Flexible working is an option, and while all the work will be focussed on producing great news content, the job is divided into two distinct elements, with 60% delivered in English, and 40% delivered in Gaelic.
Ada Campbell, Chair of the Am Pàipear Board is keen to focus on the flexible approach the organisation is taking: “We really are open to ideas here. We know what we need but we are flexible about how that is delivered. The Community Reporter can be one full time role for a bilingual person, or two distinct roles with one person delivering the English element of the work, and the other person delivering in Gaelic. Working arrangements can be flexible to meet other commitments, so this really is a job that can fit around a lot of different circumstances.”
And as Ada explains, the role is far from dull: “The new Reporter will be out and about covering the issues that matter to us here in Uist. As well as writing stories for our news pages, the Reporter will be photographing, filming and recording material for the digital service, and using social media to help keep the paper connected with the community it services.”
