Bòrd na Gàidhlig have granted £60,000 to the teams delivering the North-west Lewis Gaelic Plan and the Uist Gaelic and Community Plan to support the delivery of the plans and to establish new community funds.
Community projects will be supported through the funds to build on the cultural, social, educational, and economic impacts of Gaelic in these areas. The projects that receive funding will have a shared aims of promoting and encouraging people to speak and use Gaelic in their daily lives, building on inter-generational relationships, and normalising Gaelic as a community language. People and groups based in Uist and North-west Lewis are strongly encouraged to apply for funding to deliver projects that will protect, encourage, and strengthen the growth of the Gaelic language, in line with the fund guidelines.
Ealasaid MacDonald, Ceannard (CEO), Bòrd na Gàidhlig, said: “Bòrd na Gàidhlig want to empower communities with Gaelic language plans to identify their own priorities for language support and development. As we know, that will look different in every community and this funding has been agreed to support them with this important work.”
Alison Campbell Clark, North-west Lewis Gaelic Plan Officer, said: “We are very happy that Bòrd na Gàidhlig are providing this support to the North-west Lewis Gaelic Plan. Through our community fund, local people and organisations will have the opportunity to be directly involved in deciding how the money will be spent to strengthen Gaelic in our community.”
