Grimsay accordionist and composer Pàdruig Morrison is about to play a series of shows to launch his debut solo album, ‘Buin’.
Pàdruig, a well known local performer since his boyhood, is part of the six-piece band Beinn Lee.
He performed music of his first ever solo album to a full Mackintosh church on 25 January 2026 as part of Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow.
This is the first of four album launch concerts, with the remaining three taking place over three nights from 5 March 2026, in Skye, Lewis, and Uist.
‘Buin’ features an array of original tunes and four new Gaelic songs.
‘Buin’ means belong. Equally appropriate titles for this album could have been ‘buain’, meaning harvest, and ‘buan’, meaning long-lasting.
All of the tunes and the songs on the album have some form of reflection on belonging to a place, a people, and a culture.
Most of the music was written over the past six or seven years during which Pàdruig has thought considerably about his own, and Gaels more widely, connection to place, to the land they live on, the land they work on, and the land to which they belong.
He reflects: “I feel it is important to understand and convey how Gaels have long been fighting both for our right to land on which we can live and feed ourselves, and for our language to be spoken by those who come after us, just as it was by those who came before.
“This history is not sufficiently taught to us and I hope that this album might act as a reminder of, and an insight into, some of that history.”
Touring this new music in March, Pàdruig will be joined by singers Mischa Macpherson from Lewis and Alasdair C Whyte from Mull, who will deliver his original songs, accompanied by Rory Matheson and Micheal Steele.
The Uist launch of the album will take place in Carinish Hall on 7 March 2026 with a concert starting at 7.30pm, followed by dance band music for ceilidh dancing between 9.45pm and midnight.
Before the event in Uist, the band will perform in Las, Portree, on 5 March 2026, and An Lanntair, Stornoway, on 6 March 2026.
The album is available in digital, CD, and 12″ vinyl formats from padruigmorrison.com and will be on sale at each of the concerts. CDs are also available locally in Cnoc Soilleir, MacGillivray’s, Ceann na h-Airigh, and Taigh Chearsabhagh.
Pàdruig has also released a tunebook comprising 50 original compositions which will also be for sale at the concerts.
Tickets for the Uist concert and dance will be available on the door and on Eventbrite (padruig.eventbrite.co.uk).
