No new nominations for Stòras Uibhist Board
The deadline for nominations for potential new Directors to the Sealladh na Beinne Mòire (SnBM) Board came and went with no new names added into the hat.
There had been two vacancies on the Board following the retrial of Andrew Laing, and Chair Mary Schmoller, who had both served their full terms.
Mary Schmoller had put herself forward for re-election but with no other nominations submitted, she will rejoin the Board uncontested.
SnBM’s Articles of Association state: “The minimum number of Directors shall be five. Unless otherwise determined by Ordinary Resolution of the Company there shall not be more than twelve Directors, seven of whom shall be elected by the Ordinary Members in accordance with Article 38 (Elected Directors) and five of whom shall be co-opted by the Directors in accordance with Article 42 (Co-opted Directors).
The Board has agreed to continue with the remaining six Directors but has stated its intention to bring forward the date of next year’s Director elections and AGM.
Storas Uibhist Chief Executive Darren Taylor told Am Pàipear: “The Board has resolved to operate with the six current Directors. The intention is to bring forward the 2023 Director elections to early August, with the AGM being held later that month. Although the Articles state that there should be no more than 15 months between AGMs, the rules do not set a minimum period between meetings. The Board feels that scheduling the AGM for the summer months will encourage greater community involvement and hopefully secure enough nominations for full director elections to go ahead.”
This year’s SnBM AGM will go ahead as planned at 7.30pm on Thursday, 24th November at Talla an Iochdair.
