North Uist Community Council organised its second snowman competition recently, bringing a welcome burst of cheer after a spell of dark, dreich weather.
It seems plenty were delighted to get out to fashion some eye-catching snow creations! 19 entries were submitted to the community council.
To keep things friendly and fully independent, this year’s judging was again carried out by residents of Trianaid care home. Their involvement brings an extra sense of community spirit to the event.
Joan Ferguson, chair of North Uist Community Council, said: “We’ve now ring-fenced funds to support future competitions, whenever the weather allows, helping ensure this new tradition can continue to grow.
“Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the competition such a success.”
Marina MacLeod, manager at Trianaid care home said: “The residents at Trianaid care home enjoyed picking their favourite snowman from a selection of creative and truly unique designs sent in by the local community.
“Residents and staff alike enjoyed reminiscing about snow days gone by and the different challenges each time brought.
“It was lovely seeing the residents so engaged with picking the winner!
“Thanks to Joan Ferguson and Fiona MacVicar for enabling Trianaid to take part in this fantastic competition.”
Opportunities such as these for residents in our care homes to still engage with the community are incredibly important. Marina MacLeod is eager to hear from anyone who may be interested in setting up a Friends for Trianaid.
