Grazing rights on Scolpaig Farm, proposed site of Spaceport 1, have been allocated, subject to agreement on the terms of the lease, to a new crofter aged under 40.

Last night at a public information session on the environmental impact assessment prepared for the development, a member of the community asked whether progress had been made allocating the grazing rights for Scolpaig Farm.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar purchased the 687 acre holding to develop the spaceport in 2019.

Earlier this year the council reported it had received a substantial response to the advertisement of grazing rights at Scolpaig Farm.

“I am delighted to report that the successful crofter is under 40, committed to living here permanently and does not have access to land already in their own right,” responded Alison MacCorquodale, economic development office with responsibility for Spaceport 1.
